The world is full of (hidden) gems. Almost everything has already been discovered and is overrun by tourists. Only ever so often do you hear or see something that hasn’t been ‘ruined’ by the masses yet, and which is definitely worth a visit. Here is a small list of not everyday natural phenomena that you must have seen once in your life.
In Finnish Lapland, in the middle of the Finnish wilderness, lies the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. The resort is only about 250 kilometres away from the Arctic Circle, so seeing the Northern Lights is more the rule than the exception. This rather luxurious resort has founded something beautiful there: guests can sleep in glass igloos so that they can watch the light from their bed all night long.
In the Italian municipality of Manciano lies the small town of Saturnia, which is mainly known for its thermal baths. These natural hot springs were already discovered by the ancient Romans, thousands of years ago. The clear water there is about 38 degrees celsius, bubbling straight from the earth. The only drawback is that there’s also a lot of sulphur air over the area…so it can smell!
The American state of Hawaii consists of hundreds of volcanic islands. Its location makes the tropical area a walhalla for surf lovers. One of the larger islands is Oahu, where the Waimea River is located. This wild river flows into the North Pacific Ocean, which makes it an ideal place to learn your favourite stand on a surfboard.
On the Indonesian island of Bali, you have some beautiful spots. Unfortunately, the island is overrun by tourists, but if you search well, you will still find places that are less discovered. Take, for example, the bamboo houses on the Camaya Bali Resort. Here you look out – from your bed – over the beautiful rice terraces.
