A blind, autistic singer has stolen the hearts of the audience of America’s Got Talent with his act behind the piano. Kodi Lee, 22 years old, appeared on the show, with his mother, who explained that his son has a passion for music and is also very good at singing. Every time his mother played music, as he grew up, Kodi’s eyes would shine and he’d spontaneously start to sing along.
Because of his love for music and the passion he had during the show, his life is now a lot easier. His mother also indicates that it is very difficult for him to lead a normal life, as he is both autistic and blind. Ultimately, music has saved his life.
During birth, his parents soon found out that something wasn’t quite right with Kodi. At just 5 days old, he then had to have surgery. Years later, following the successful operation, he discovered his passion for music. When he told the judges that he was going to sing a song, the audience stiffened. He took a seat behind the piano and started to play ‘A Song For You’ by Leon Russell.
When hearing the first tones, the members of the judging panel were amazed. After his performance of about 40 seconds, the entire audience went crazy.
Although the judges, of course, had given him their judgement, they were genuinely surprised by the quality of the performance. Simon Cowell also found the performance ‘truly phenomenal’. He said he wouldn’t forget this moment for the rest of his life.
Judge panel member, Gabrielle Union, then did something nobody saw coming. She pressed the golden button, which meant Kodi immediately got a ticket to the live shows. Social media exploded too, with famous stars like Oprah Winfrey showing their admiration for Kodi. Although Kodi got his ticket behind the piano, he doesn’t rule out using a different style of music for his next performance. He wants to show the world what he can do with jazz, R&B and HipHop, as well. To be continued!
