Today there is an epidemic of stress, depression and anxiety. Although it is talked about more openly, there is no visible reduction. Even though the news is full of tips on how to stay positive, you can’t just make a bad situation positive by using just your mind. However, you have to make sure that you don’t let the negative thoughts dominate. That is why we will give you some tips to reduce negativity in your life.
Your imagination is an important tool to reduce negativity and stressful situations. For example, imagine a situation that is stressful for you and list down all of the advantages of the situation. By using your imagination in this way, you ensure that you become aware of the stress that the situation brings with it, but at the same time, you start to see the benefits of the situation, too.
2. Write it down
Recording stressful situations is also a handy tool to banish negativity and stress. Make a note when you are experiencing a stressful moment and do this, for example, on your phone, a post-it or your laptop. The moment you feel calmer and are better able to focus on the stressful situation, you will start analysing the situation. Find out why you found the situation so stressful and what you can do about it next time.
3. A growth mindset
A growth mindset ensures that you continue to develop and learn new things. You can improve yourself in aspects that you are already good at or develop talents you didn’t have previously. This kind of mindset always includes positivity, because positivity is necessary to keep developing yourself. Don’t think in shortcomings, think in solutions!
4. Have self-compassion
People are often too hard on themselves. It is good to demand the highest attainable version of yourself, but in some cases, this is simply not possible. It is therefore advisable not to be too hard on yourself. Not only can this worsen your results in the short term, but it can also cause you to perform less well in the long term. Therefore, don’t be angry with yourself when things don’t go as well as you wanted them to. Instead, see it as an aspect of life where you can still improve yourself.
