55-year-old Nanita Ronquillo didn’t earn a whole lot when she sold fish on the local market as a market woman. However, this did not stop her from being able to send her son to medical school.
For Nanita, life was not easy. She had to raise her young son as a single mother, while working at the same time, to make money. However, she was keen on taking care of her son, John Nico Ronquillo, in such a way that he got everything his heart desired. She worked extremely hard to give her son a better life.
That is why Nanita left her house in the early hours of every morning to sell fish at the local market. It was not an easy task, but she gathered all her courage and gave everything she had, to support her family.
After Nanita found out that her husband was having an affair, she packed her things and left. This brought her to the market, where she soon started selling fresh fish. She often leaves the market around 6 o’clock in the evening, after being there since 5 o’clock in the morning.
She has had days when she earns a decent amount of money, but there are also days when she hardly sells anything, and therefore, hardly earns anything. Because of her financial situation, there were even times when John wasn’t allowed to go to school, because Nanita couldn’t afford to pay the fees. Nevertheless, with sheer hard work and determination, she raised enough money to let her son finish medical school.
Despite her job as a fish seller, she also has heart problems. Because of this, an income was by no means always guaranteed. Nevertheless, she still managed to help her son, John. And now that he has completed his education, he, in turn, does everything in his power to help his mother.
